Sabina Shikhlinskaya - d.o.b 1962, lives and works in Baku, Azerbaijan - Educated in V.Mukhina Institute of Arts, St. Petersburg, Russia and in Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.
S. Shikhlinskaya is an established Azerbaijani artist working in a range of media, from the site-specific and public art to mural paintings, performance and video art. She explores multimedia practices, using her cross-cultural background to create art works, including complex relationships between politics, historical memory and national identity.
She is a pioneer of conceptual art formation in Azerbaijan and holds a title of Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Republic. She is a member of Azerbaijan Artists Union, a member of CIMAM from 2009.
Since 1993 Sabina Shikhlinskaya has curated more than 70 exhibitions and projects in both Azerbaijani and international venues, with the priority of social subjects.
Shikhlinskaya involved in number of educational art programs, leading series of master classes and art projects for young artists.
She is the founder of the first nongovernment art union in Azerbaijan - the “Labyrinth group” (1996), one of the creators of an artistic initiative “ALOV” - Project of Art Events and Artist’s Residencies, Baku, Azerbaijan (2014) and has recently created an art organization PlatformArt (2020).
