CURRENT – ART IN PUBLIC SPACE is a transdisciplinary festival held every two years in Stuttgart, exploring artistic forms and practices in the urban context. The third edition runs from June 26 to July 27, 2025, with the theme "Air", addressing its social, political, ecological, and material dimensions.

Air, though invisible, is essential and omnipresent—carrying sound, smells, and particles, shaping weather, and connecting all living things. Once overlooked, air now takes center stage in discourses on climate crisis, pollution, wildfires, and pandemics. CURRENT traces air's streams and impacts in the city, using it as a guiding principle for artistic exploration of movement and stagnation.

Artists and groups are invited via an OPEN CALL to submit new, site-specific works examining air in urban, historical, and social contexts. Available media include a media board at Pragsattel intersection and eight flags in Stuttgart and Degerloch. Works may be complemented by performances, walks, or talks. Each project receives a €4,000 production budget, gross, (plus fixed costs covered by the organizer) and a €4,000 artist fee (gross).
