In our November 2026 IGBK info session, we will explore socially engaged arts together with the Alliance for Socially Engaged Arts and Alliance Fellow, Jasmina Ibrahimović.
The Alliance for Socially Engaged Arts is an alliance of some of Europe’s leading philanthropic foundations, uniting resources to to champion the power of socially engaged arts in driving positive social change across Europe. It works to connect and elevate organisations and practitioners across Europe, advocating for greater recognition, funding, and policy support. Through collaboration and shared purpose, the Alliance aims to strengthen the visibility, impact, and long-term sustainability of socially engaged arts. It also runs a Fellowship programme through open calls, connecting and supporting leaders and organisations working in this field.
Socially engaged arts bring artists and communities together to collaborate and address social, political, and cultural issues through art. Rooted in co-creation and participation, these creative practices foster dialogue, change perspectives, and spark positive social change, paving the way towards a more equitable and connected future.
This session offers an opportunity to learn more about the field of socially engaged arts across Europe, the Alliance’s work, and its strong Pan-European network.
Through the input by Jasmina Ibrahimović, we will explore different models of artistic practice and experiences in the field, gain insights into the benefits of transnational networking, and create space for exchange with participants.
Welcome by Doris Weinberger (IGBK board member and co-project lead of Opening Space | Promoting Encounters). During this session, we will hear from Daniela Nofal, Senior Programme Manager at the Alliance, who will be joined by Alliance Fellow Jasmina Ibrahimović, and by Hannah Brennhäußer, Programme Lead in the Arts & Culture team at Allianz Foundation, one of the Alliance’s foundation partners. This will be followed by some time for Q&A. Moderation by IGBK office.
Jasmina Ibrahimović is a Bosnian-Dutch dramaturg and theatre director. Her work is rooted in a fascination with the ways art can bring people into meaningful relationship with one another. Through community arts, she creates spaces where stories that are too often unheard can be shared, where people from different backgrounds can encounter one another, and where new forms of belonging, dialogue and collective imagination can emerge.
Her work is driven by a belief that community arts is not simply a methodology for participation, but an artistic practice in its own right - one that can contribute to a more inclusive and democratic society by creating the conditions for people to reconnect with themselves, with others and with the world around them.
As an Alliance Fellow, Jasmina is exploring how the unique artistic qualities of community arts can be better understood, articulated and shared. Working alongside artists and cultural practitioners from across Europe has reinforced her belief that, in a time of increasing polarisation and uncertainty, international exchange is not simply about sharing practices, but about collectively imagining new ways of living together.
The info session is organized within the context of IGBK’s project Opening Space | Promoting Encounters. In 2025/2026, IGBK focuses on local artistic initiatives that adopt a multidisciplinary approach, involving local communities, diverse fields of knowledge, and public spaces. Such initiatives create opportunities for encounter and promote dialog between different groups. At the same time, however, they are frequently subject to external scrutiny and must withstand criticism.
In interviews and exchange formats, we discuss: What is the scope for interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and socially engaged art practices? What approaches and models can be identified? How do artists and participants, through collaboration, gain practical strategies and methods for civil society resilience?
The inputs and discussion will be in English. Questions are welcome in German or English.
The info session is aimed at artists of all disciplines, cultural practitioners, and stakeholders from cultural politics and administration, who work or wish to work at the intersection of the arts and social and interdisciplinary issues. We look forward to exchanging ideas with you.
Info Sessions 2026
In 2026, IGBK continues to offer digital info sessions on current questions concerning cross-border artistic work in Germany, its neighboring countries, and transnational calls. In one- to two-hour information and networking meetings, thematic focuses will be presented and discussed.
The IGBK invites partner organizations (e.g., other IAA Europe National Committees, European Partners) to present their offers and work, report on their specific local context, and engage in open exchange with artists and cultural practitioners.
These online sessions aim to make current projects and opportunities more accessible to a wider audience, provide know-how transfer for artists, and strengthen collaboration among European partners.
