Interdisciplinary Work and Collaborative Artistic Production at Sinopale—An International Perspective on Participatory Art Production

Online Lecture with Prof. T. Melih Görgün during Berlin Art Week 2026

Prof. T. Melih Görgün is an artist, curator, and founder of Sinopale—the International Sinop Biennale, which is considered one of the world’s most significant examples of participatory biennial formats. In his lecture, he explores how collaborative artistic production models can function beyond established structures. Drawing on his many years of experience in Istanbul, Sinop, and Berlin, he asks: How can participatory and interdisciplinary curatorial practices succeed in reaching new audiences—and what can we learn from international approaches?

The lecture will be held in German. Questions and comments in English are welcome.

The lecture is part of a three-part lecture series at the nGbK Pavilion Hellersdorf and online on the topic of "Expanding Audiences & Community Building through Cross-Collaboration."

An event by CCCberlin and Internationale Gesellschaft der Bildenden Künste, in cooperation with the neuen Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst and in collaboration with the Performing Arts Programm and the ›Zwischenräume‹ pilot project at the Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin

The event is part of the IGBK's 2026 annual project, "Opening Space | Promoting Encounters." Since 2025, the IGBK has been dedicating itself, through this project, to regional artistic initiatives that create spaces for encounter through their work, often operate in a trans- or interdisciplinary manner, and pursue socially oriented approaches. As part of this effort, the IGBK organizes events and audio interviews—including with international partners—to document diverse perspectives, strengthen cross-border solidarity, and, ideally, contribute to the formation of new networks (more information from 2025/2026 here).
