Singapore Art Week is an annual celebration of visual arts which takes place in the month of January. The ninth edition in 2021 will be held from 22 to 30 January. This nine-day celebration of the visual arts will take place across Singapore, from arts and cultural institutions and private galleries, to art precincts, independent art spaces and public spaces.

In line with Singapore Art Week’s marketing tagline #ArtTakesOver, the National Arts Council (NAC) is seeking to support innovative and exciting visual arts programmes that will temporarily take over the island during Singapore Art Week 2021. Artists, collectives, institutions, organisations and other art intermediaries are welcome to participate in the open call.

Proposals that involve collaborations with foreigners are eligible, as long as the lead applicant (who plays a lead role in the production) and at least half the artistic team/cast is Singaporean or a permanent resident. Only projects which feature artworks/ programmes that have not been presented in Singapore before are eligible for the open call.

The organisers are looking for projects that:

Use technology as a medium for art-making and/or a tool for creating new access points for audience outreach and engagement.

Involve international collaborations and artistic exchanges with foreign art communities (e.g. overseas artists, curators, arts organisations).

Are inter-disciplinary, involving collaborations across visual arts and other art forms (e.g. visual arts and theatre; visual arts and literary arts).

Help to build new audiences for visual arts, namely art collectors and families.

Offer unique art experiences and/or are sited in unconventional spaces (e.g. shop houses, industrial sites and vacant commercial units in malls).

Funding varies by project type and applicant. Successful past projects have typically received funding between $15,000 and $40,000 (9800 – 26,000 EUR).
