About the residency program:

Amant Foundation is an international private arts organization that fosters artistic experimentation and dialogue across disciplines through residencies and public programming at its two locales: the New York City borough of Brooklyn and the Tuscan village of Chiusure in the heart of Siena province. The NYC Residency Program for international artists has three iterations—Fall, Winter, and Spring. It is conceived as a research and artistic platform, experimenting with non-linear models of generating knowledge to encourage different connections between artists, researchers, cultural institutions, and the general public.

Amant provides a stimulating and flexible environment for international practitioners to experiment and make work in NY for a period of three months. Located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the residency program encourages its residents to take full advantage of access to the city’s numerous cultural institutions, its art professionals and practitioners many of whom are based in Brooklyn.

Residency period is 3 months in either of the following sessions:

  • From the beginning of September to the end of November 2021.

  • From the beginning of January to the end of March 2022.

  • From the beginning of April to the end of June 2022.

The residency comprises:

  • Individual studios, a communal area and outdoor space. The studios are situated within the main building, which also includes exhibition galleries, a library/reading room and a performance space to carry out rehearsals and other activities.

  • Return economy flights and airport transfers to NY.

  • A monthly stipend of $3,000.00 to offset the costs of accommodation, transport and day-to-day expenses. Amant studios are not residential.

  • The opportunity to benefit from the expertise of the artistic team at Amant as being exposed to its exhibitions and event programs. In this regard, the residents will be asked to do a public program event during the course of the residency.

  • Introducing residents through special meetings with local researchers and art professionals relevant to their needs, and access to a rich network of institutions in NY.

Eligibility:

The residency welcomes letters from both, emerging artists and from artists with professional standing in their field. Applications are accepted from creative practitioners and academics in a variety of disciplines: visual artists, writers, composers, performers, filmmakers, historians and theorists; working at the research stage of a project.

Deadline for applications: December 18th (Friday), 2020, 00:00 (EST). Applicants will be notified of their status by March 31st, 2021.
