Invitation Art Space Connect talk on 03 October 2020 at 2pm in cooperation with LindeNOW Festival Leipzig
Alicja Kaczmarek from Centrala Birmingham meets with the armenian curator Anna Kamay, the artist Ara Petrosyan (a.o. Artlab Yerevan) and with Marie Le Sourd from the Cultural Mobility Information Network On the Move.
Ana and Ara will shortly present some of their current initiatives and the discussion will then focus on the current conditions for the international mobility of artists and independent art initiatives.
We look forward to exchange with everybody after first inputs and discussion. We use Zoom for this event.
This event is a cooperation with the Leipzig based art space festival LindeNOW 2020, which takes place digitally this year.

"Аnna Kamay is a Yerevan/ Armenia-based independent curator, cultural manager and producer, who organizes community-based art projects, with the goal of using public space and contemporary art to meet local needs. Kamay curated two major exhibits tackling the issues of Syrian refugees in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh - “The Newcomers: Syrians in Armenia” (2016) and “Home to Home” (2017). She is the founder of Artsakh Fest, the first international contemporary art festival in Nagorno Karabakh, aimed at healing the war trauma, overcoming the isolation of the conflict-ridden region and revitalising the abandoned theater building in Stepanakert which once used to be the community centre of the city. Currently she’s studying permaculture and working on establishing an experimental art residency for mothers in art, as a way for art workers to reconcile their artistic practice with motherhood."
"Ara Petrosyan (born in 1976) is an Armenian artist based in Yerevan. With over 15 years of active artistic work, Ara’s practice focuses on the abstract, expressionist painting, which is often put and analysed in the context of social and political issues, such as civil activism. Petrosyan is one of the founders and current members of Artlabyerevan, which is a Yerevan-based political art group, created to support activist movements and social-engagement and stimulate the discussion about art and politics in Armenia. One of the most prominent contributions of the group is a show Resistance - an exhibition showing the events of March 1, 2008, when the Armenian society protests againts the results of unfair and non-free elections were met by violent reaction of authorities and persecutions and on March 1st by number of murders. The group was representing Armenia at the Venice Biennale 2019 with the exhibition Revolutionary sensorium. Petrosyan worked and exhibited in Armenia, Italy, Poland, Georgia and Germany. His works are being shown at the BWA Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok in Poland right now, as a part of a group show Fear."
"Marie Le Sourd is since 2012 the Secretary General of On the Move, the Cultural Mobility Information Network active in Europe and worldwide. Prior to this position, Marie Le Sourd worked in Singapore for the Asia-Europe Foundation (Cultural Department) from 1999 till 2006 and directed the French Cultural Centre in Yogyakarta-Indonesia from 2006 till 2011."

Art Space Connect is a 2020 collaboration of Internationale Gesellschaft der Bildenden Künste (IGBK), GeoAIR (Tbilisi) and Centrala Berlin.
The final conference of "Art Space Connect" will take place on 06 and 07 November 2020. The opening talks of this conference will be streamed live from KUNSTPUNKT Berlin where the "Art Space Connect“ organizers are guests of the Netzwerk freier Berliner Projekträume und-Initiativen.
As cooperation partners, we want to strengthen the exchange with independent art initiatives and artist-run spaces in Central and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, asking:
- What is the specific profile of independent art initiatives and artist-run spaces and how do they develop and reach their audience?
- What is the status quo of international exchange amongst those initiatives? Which structures are relevant and how does international cooperation help?
- What are the regional perspectives and political frameworks to consider?
- What will mobility come down to in the aftermath of the COVID19-crisis, which new ways of digital and regional audience development will remain?
- How do we find creative and alternative ways to support and finance independent art initiatives and artist run spaces in these countries and the international exchange amongst them? What are the new tools and solutions for support?
