When planning a new use for Schloss Plüschow after the unification of Germany in 1990, the aim was to create an institution for the promotion of modern artists, to save the listed building from decay and to put it to a more sensible use. With this aim in mind, the Förderkreis Schloss Plüschow e.V. was founded in May 1990, thus becoming the sponsor of the project "Mecklenburgisches Künstlerhaus Schloss Plüschow".
The castle, which was built in 1763, houses five studios that are rented out to artists for a limited period of time (one month). In addition, work and travel grants are awarded to finance the stays.
In general, the studios are designed for the working stay of one person. For visits by an additional adult person, an extra charge of 8.00 euros per night is payable. The studios are located on the 1st floor and in the attic and each consist of a working room, a living room and a bathroom. The living rooms are furnished, with a fully equipped kitchenette, a bed as well as a guest bed. Studio 5 and 6 share a bathroom. There are worktops and shelves in the workrooms. Each studio has internet access via cable network as well as WLAN.
The rental price includes all additional costs. Electricity and telephone charges are billed separately according to consumption. In the castle there is an etching press (only suitable for intaglio printing) and a library, which can be used by the artists.
