In 2025, the BBK Federal Association, together with the Stiftung Kunstfonds, conducted a large-scale study entitled "Von der Kunst zu leben. Die wirtschaftliche und soziale Situation Bildender Künstler:innen [Living from Art: The Economic and Social Situation of Visual Artists]." Now, the BBK Bundesverband has published an accompanying publication "Impulse und Wege von der Kunst zu leben [Impulses and Ways to Live from Art]." It outlines how cultural policy conditions can be sustainably improved and which measures are suitable for strengthening the economic, social, and professional situation of visual artists in the long term.
At this point, we would also like to refer to the document "Altersvorsorge für Künstler*innen: Ein Blick auf die Rentensysteme Dänemarks, Irlands, Spaniens und Finnlands [Retirement Provision for Artists: A Look at the Pension Systems of Denmark, Ireland, Spain, and Finland]," which was developed as part of the IGBK's 2024 annual project "visual artists | diverse conditions" and based on discussions with European artists' associations about retirement security for visual artists.
The publication is expressly aimed at political decision-makers, administrative actors, and those responsible for the arts and culture sector. It is intended as a constructive contribution to the cultural policy debate and as an invitation to dialogue on necessary reforms.
